Google is making some changes that will restructure its business apps and services. Formerly known as Google My Business (GMB), it will now be called Google Business Profile (GBP).
This isn’t the first time Google has changed its name for this program either. At various junctures, it has been known as Google Local, Google Places, and Google+ Local. It’s once again changing for what Google considers a process simplification.
Why Does This Name Change Matter?
First, it impacts the way businesses list their services. Before GMB, they could post individual listings directly into the Google Maps or Search features. Google is basically going back to that method. The new GBP will transition away from businesses being able to post multiple listings onto it. These are changes that are expected to become evident in the business manager within the next few months.
New Features
There are also a handful of new components coming soon.
- You’ll be able to use a call history feature.
- Google search will have its own messaging system.
- You’ll be able to claim and verify the GBP through Google Search or Google Maps.
- Those programs will be able to control message receipts.
They’re also introducing something a Performance Planner. It’s designed to help manage the business campaigns that you develop through Google. It includes:
- Campaign Forecasts
- Methods for determining seasonal periods in campaigns
- Budget management features
- More ways to adjust your campaign settings
The Performance Planner should benefit users by allowing them to track monthly and quarterly performance metrics, obtain suggestions for how to better manage campaign expenditures and determine how their performance changes from campaign adjustments.
That’s the bulk of what Google is tweaking with regards to its revised GBP system. Again, it’s expected to be phased in over the course of a few months, so you won’t see these changes instantly.
